mothersday201910

With Mother’s Day fast approaching, Junior School opened up its doors on Wednesday to showcase some of the amazing learning our K to 6 students have done this year.

Both Hooke House and Woodstock were hives of activity throughout the day, as mothers, grandmothers, aunts, godmothers, guardians and some fathers visited classrooms to see how much progress the students have made so far.

The girls were very excited about working collaboratively with their loved ones on a range of fun learning activities, which really tested their skills.

And of course, after using all that grey matter, they were rewarded with delicious refreshments, including scones, cream and jam!

For our K to 2 students and their guests, activities were focused around the ten attributes valued by International Baccalaureate World Schools: inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced and reflective.

Year 4 were focused on ‘unplugged’ coding, which is a fun way to learn the fundamentals of coding, using creative and imaginative ways of thinking instead of a computer.

Ms Gordon and Ms McNerney declared that they very impressed with some of the skills and critical thinking on display and noticed a few standout “coding Ninjas” among the guests!

Year 5 showcased their learning across every subject, impressing their mums with their handwriting and their mathematical prowess – no rote learning here!

For Year 6, it was all about risk taking and technology, with students and their guests working collaboratively together to come up with innovative solutions to a set of challenges.
