最新麻豆视频 turns Green and Gold

Today, 最新麻豆视频 turned Green and Gold, with everyone from Dr Scott to our students dressing up in support of the Australian Olympic Committee initiative to cheer on the Australian Olympic Team in Tokyo.

Director of Sport and Performance, Mr Tom Hill spearheaded the initiative. He said, “It was wonderful to see so many different colours - not just Australian outfits - but other nations too, reflecting the diversity of the 最新麻豆视频 community. From coloured clothing, props and imaginative Zoom backgrounds, the energy created around Green and Gold Day as part of our more broader House Olympics competition running throughout Weeks 3 and 4, brought a smile to all our faces.

There was even a hotly contested Best-dressed Staff Competition. Dr Scott set the bar pretty high with her sunflower outfit! There were some honourable mentions too, particularly Head of TAS, Ms McNally with her yellow flowery hat. But after much debate, the judges awarded the Bronze medal to Mrs Yvonne Grisaffe for successfully channelling Ariarne Titmus! Mr Michael Foley from our Maintenance Team took out the Silver medal with his Irish-themed suit, which was particularly timely given Ireland won their first Gold medal in the Rowing yesterday. But there can only be one winner, and the Olympic Gold medal was awarded to Mr Alan Hakim, Head of Maintenance, who even painted his head green and gold. Outstanding effort everyone!

Tonight, we will be tuning in at 8:50pm (EST) to watch Hannah Buckling (2009PY) and the Aussie Stingers Water Polo team take on Spain in their Round 3 Group Stage match. Let’s hope they can make it a third consecutive win! The full schedule for the women’s Water Polo and all other events in Tokyo can be found on the Sport Portal under the Tokyo Olympics Guide. You will also find plenty of other ways to get involved and support the Australian Olympic Team here. If there’s one positive from our current lockdown, it’s the fact we have the Olympics to keep us entertained during our regular brain breaks!

While it might not be possible to maintain our normal training routine during lockdown, it’s important that we stay active and that we establish a daily routine that works for us. More than ever, we need fresh air and exercise, both of which are proven antidotes to cabin fever and any feelings of stress or frustration that we might be experiencing. Again, with the help of our Sport Captains, we’ve prepared lots of general fitness tips, specific workout ideas, as well as online sessions, challenges and information on how to maintain a positive mindset. As the weeks progress, we will continue to update these resources with new workouts and options to help us all stay motivated and physically and mentally strong.

The Sport Department is also using this time to plan ahead and prepare for the summer season of 2021/22, which will commence in Term 4. While we don’t know as yet when we will be return to the sporting fields, we want to be ready and prepared for when we can. This includes looking at how and when we deliver different sports, following on from the feedback we’ve received. We are extremely fortunate to have a committed and capable group of Sport Captains for 2021/2022, who are all engaged and working hard behind the scenes to make sure that we can all ready when we can get back to the sports we love.
