Year 8 Music Day
Year 8 Music Day filled the campus with a plethora of sound genres on Friday 10 June, familiarising the cohort with the vast breadth of musical styles and careers available today.
The many workshops were led by some of the leading lights of the Australian music industry old and new.
They included voice training from the award-winning Little Pattie, whose string of hits included ‘He's My Blonde Headed Stompie Wompie Real Gone Surfer Boy’, which reached number two on the Australian Top 40 charts in 1963.
Little Pattie inspired a group of Year 8 singing enthusiasts to try performing the 60’s hit ‘The Shoop Shoop Song – it’s in his kiss’, with all the spirit and verve of Cher.
Other workshops run throughout the day covered drumming, guitar playing, Broadway dance styles, beatbox and a lesson in the electronic music platform Ableton Push.
“The aim was to give the girls a high-end experience that would extend them beyond their normal classroom lessons”, said Head of Music Mirella Di Giorgio. “By working alongside seasoned professionals and young, upcoming artists, they gained an understanding of the vast potential of the Australian music industry”.
