Music Weekend
On the first weekend back of Term 2, over 150 students from Years 3 to 12 attended the annual Music Weekend, where musicians from our core ensembles and chamber groups come together to work intensively on their repertoire with the Music staff.
For this event, the students take over the Independent Theatre along with the Big Gym, Small Gym and the Athenaeum building in order to build their ensembles skills, refine their playing, and attend sectionals and rehearsals, in preparation for their end of semester concerts.
As always, the weekend includes peer tutoring along with games sessions for the Juniors which are run and organised by the Music Captains and Senior students. It is a wonderful way for the musicians to connect with students from both the Junior and Senior schools. They also learn a lot from each other in the process.
Catering is always an important aspect for hungry musicians and the students continued the tradition of pizzas and afternoon tea lamingtons and cakes, along with the essential food groups of Allans snakes, Zooper Doopers and Chupa Chups.
The weekend ended with an informal concert for family and friends. Each ensemble performed one of the pieces they had been developing over the two days and it was incredible to see so many people turn up to watch on Sunday afternoon.
We would like to thank all the members of the Performing Arts department and the academic staff for their support of the students over the weekend. The students are incredibly lucky to have such a wide range of talented professionals working alongside them. Also, look out for an unmissable performance by our Music tutors live onstage in the Independent Theatre later this term.
