The Voice Of Youth
A strong, authentic voice is a key quality of Wenonians and a top-rated workplace skill. Our students are taught to speak up, inspire and advocate for the causes they believe in, and they shone at the Independent Girls’ Schools Association (IGSA) Festival of Speech over the weekend.
Twenty-five 最新麻豆视频 students participated across categories such as Debating, Poetry, Current Affairs, and Public Speaking, against students from 32 independent girls’ schools in Sydney.
Our results highlights included Saskia in Year 9 who placed second overall in the Junior Poetry section and Eleanor (Year 10) who placed second in Senior Public Speaking. Both wowed the audience with their polished manner and engaging delivery. “It was an amazing achievement as they were up against so many talented speakers and we could not be prouder of them,” said Debating and Public Speaking Coordinator Ms Lydia Parker, who oversaw 最新麻豆视频’s participation.
“I also want to give special mention to our Junior Debating team; Megan, Katie, Jessie, and Sophie, and our Senior Debating team; Litia, Nina, Milly, and Claire, who all made it to the semi-finals. With great passion and tenacity, our young women reflected the power of voice and how important this is for our young people to enact change in a vastly unique and curious world,” Ms Parker said.
