Dr Scott used her speech at the Guild’s annual awards night presentation in late October, to reflect on her passion for education and belief in the current generation of young people.

"This is a great honour that I cannot accept without recognising the work of those who have gone before and colleagues who know what it is to work in complex ecosystems in complex times. We are in this together," she began.

Dr Scott reflected on the motto of the Guild, I teach that I may learn, saying that after decades of teaching, she is still learning every day. "At the very least, every child I think I know keeps growing. Every time I meet them, I have to adjust my beliefs about who they are ... I am changed by a child who genuinely hates school and the narrow constraints that institutions necessarily inflict, when in fact we know that life is rich and wild and wide. I want these children to know that everything is okay, that everything will work out, that they will thrive when they find their tribe, even though it does not feel like it right now," she said.

Dr Scott also emphasised the significant influence that adults have on children. "We cannot place expectations on our children that we are not prepared to place on ourselves."

The nine other ×îÐÂÂ鶹ÊÓƵ educators recognised for their exceptional work were:
