Walking tour a glimpse into Australia's history

Rockstour1

最新麻豆视频’s Year 4 students gained a clearer understanding of Australia’s aboriginal and colonial history with a walking tour of The Rocks.

The excursion on 18 May included two tours. The first focused on the consequences of British colonisation for people, groups and the environment, while the second provided an understanding and recognition of the land and life style of the Gadigal people.

Junior School teacher Miss Yvette Christopher said both tours provided different perspectives of the The Rocks area, a living window to the nation’s past.

“Our excursion to The Rocks provided opportunities for students to explore issues related to Australia’s original inhabitants, early explorers and the British arrival and occupation of Australia,” Miss Christopher said. “We were blessed with a beautiful day.”

Students offered the following reflections on their learning from the day:

“I enjoyed dressing up as a convict and learning new things.” – Holly

“I liked learning about specific convicts and finding out that some successfully escaped!” – Katie

“I thought the most important part was that we heard stories about what we were seeing.” – Polly

“I found the tour really fun and found out that some convicts had eight children!” – Maddie
