Year 9 Service Learning Tours
87 girls from Year 9 spent time during the last school holidays on Service Learning tours, where they immersed themselves in hard work as well as local culture.
East Kimberley
East Kimberley: two groups of 16 girls supported four different projects in East Kimberley, assisting at a kangaroo wildlife rehabilitation facility, cooking and delivering meals for women affected by domestic violence, assisting a holiday activity program for Aboriginal children in Kununurra and helping with the One Family at a Time Education Project (growing vegetables and healthy eating). Group 2
Laos: two groups of 17 girls worked with Rustic Pathways to install six water access points and commence construction of toilet blocks throughout remote Nong Tok village. The girls also taught English and Maths in the primary school, visited an elephant sanctuary and experienced daily Morning Alms ceremonies for the Buddhist monks. Click here to view photos
Thailand: 10 girls completed a fence around the Mae Sa Kua village primary school, and also taught English and Maths to the school’s 45 students. The fence provides privacy and sanctuary for the students, and keeps the wildlife out. Click here to view photos
Cambodia
Cambodia: 11 girls were involved in a service project constructing a home for one family in the village of Prek Toal. Working with local tradesmen, the girls helped to build the foundation and timber frame, install wooden floor boards and lay the walls (palm leaves). Click here to view photos
