A National Music Title
Head of Music, Ms Jessica Farrell travelled up to Brisbane last weekend to see our very own Natalie (Year 11) win the prestigious National Youth Concerto Competition.
“On Sunday, I had the great pleasure of attending a concert in Brisbane featuring performances by three of the best young string players in the country. The three performers shared a few things in common: they were all highly disciplined; passionate; focused; and confident, a result of years and years of practice and dedication to their craft. Each performer presented a concerto in full with the Queensland Youth Orchestra, but it was in fact more than just a concert. It was the finals of the National Youth Concerto Competition! This competition has been running for nearly 45 years and has been won by some of the most successful string players in Australia, including Richard Tognetti (Artistic Director of the Australian Chamber Orchestra), professional concert violinist Ray Chen and many orchestra concertmasters and players from ensembles across the world.
One of the performers was our very own Natalie Kendy. Natalie played the Violin Concerto by Austrian composer Korngold. Her performance of this modern work showed a high degree of finesse, with her attention to the technical and musical details nuanced and highly expressive; it was a commanding performance.
So, I guess you are wondering what the judges thought. Well, they were extremely impressed and entranced by all aspects of Natalie’s performance and I am very proud to announce that Natalie won this competition.
Winning this National title is an enormous honour and an important platform for Natalie to further showcase and develop her skills and I know that for her, this competition win marks just the beginning of what I imagine will be a long and exciting career. Congratulations Natalie.”
