Year 12 Spanish visit Instituto Cervantes
Last week, our Year 12 Spanish students sat the DELE exam at the Instituto Cervantes – it will give them an accreditation of competence in the Spanish language. Hannah and Matilda report.
The DELE exam is awarded by the Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training of Spain. Ms Furlong Alexanderson’s HSC Spanish class sat the exam last Friday and Hannah and Matilda wrote an account of their day in English and Spanish.
‘Last Friday, as a class we went to Instituto Cervantes to do an exam called ‘Dele para escolares’. The exam allows us to have a globally recognised qualification. Also, we visited Instituto Cervantes to see the library that had books and movies in Spanish. We were lucky because we could see the books that we wrote in year 10 for an assessment task.
The day of the exam, we arrived at Instituto Cervantes and we did our first exam at 9am. It was a bit difficult because we didn’t study a lot. Next, we continued with reading and writing in Spanish. After one or two hours, we could eat and drink while we waited for the speaking exam in Spanish. It was the most difficult aspect of the day, but it was good because we had a delicious Mexican lunch. We ate traditional Mexican food like tortillas, chilaquiles and flan.
The certificates will help us in the future. Depending on if we receive the certificate, we will be able to live in Spanish speaking countries and we will be able to find work more easily. It is the best because we don’t have the difficulties of completing the exam in a few years. Basically, it is very convenient and important for when we continue with the Spanish language in the future, it was also a good opportunity to complete a different type of exam and expand our knowledge.
While we were in Instituto Cervantes Sydney, we learnt about the character of Spanish people and their mannerisms. We tried traditional Mexican food and immersed ourselves in the Mexican and Spanish cultures on the same day.
As a class we would like to say a big thank you to our teacher, Ms Furlong Alexanderson for organising our day. We enjoyed it a lot!
El viernes pasado como una clase fuimos al Instituto Cervantes para hacer un examen que se llama Dele para escolares. El examen nos permite tener una calificación reconocida globalmente. También visitamos el Instituto Cervantes para ver la biblioteca que tiene solo libros y películas en español. Tuvimos suerte porque pudimos ver los libros que escribimos en el año diez para una evaluación.
El día del examen, llegamos al instituto de Español e hicimos nuestro primer examen a las nueve. Fue un poco difícil porque no estudiamos mucho. Próximo, continuamos leyendo en español y escribiendo en español. Después de una hora o dos horas, pudimos comer y beber mientras esperamos para el examen oral en español. Este fue el aspecto más difícil del día, pero fue bien, porque hemos tenido un delicioso almuerzo de comida mexicana. Comimos comida tradicional de México, incluyendo tortillas y chilaquiles y flan.
Los certificados nos ayudarán en el futuro. Depende si recibamos el certificado, podremos vivir en los países de habla hispana y podremos trabajar más fácilmente. Es lo mejor, porque no tenemos las dificultades de completar el examen en pocos años. Básicamente, es muy conveniente e importante para cuando continuamos la lengua de español en el futuro, también fue una buena oportunidad completar un diferente tipo de examen y expandir nuestro conocimiento.
Mientras estábamos en el Instituto Cervantes de Sídney aprendimos sobre el carácter de los españoles y sus manierismos. Probamos la comida tradicional de México y nos sumergimos en las culturas mexicana y española el mismo día.
